Planning and Process

I started my product by researching different stitches, as well as different aesthetics and photos that match my personal style.
Using prior knowledge from product design I made design specifications as well as a mood board.
Aesthetic in the context of clothes is a type of fashion that people would describe as pleasing to look at. To help understand my aesthetic I made a mood board. In my mood board I have used white backgrounds with black and white photos as well as light and dark grey, I have also added small symbols and drawings to show how I would like to add embroidery or detailing on the hem of my skirt.
Design Specifications
Aesthetics
I will make a white pleated skirt with some designs in black considering I will want my skirt to match with a lot of different things and outfits. I also feel white and black are classic and almost formal in a way which is what I want to represent as my aesthetic in a way.
Cost
To make my skirt, I will go to a sewing cafe which also provides sewing lessons to avoid paying for a lot of the equipment myself, it will also have a range of fabrics for me to choose from. Overall all I will be paying for is the fabric and the zipper’s as well as the buttons.
Client
My product will be made for myself since I am planning on creating pieces in the future that I can wear.
Size/Shape
My skirt’s size will be made to fit my measurements.
Function
My skirt is made to function as a piece of clothing that you can wear with many different outfits.
Materials
I used a 50/50 cotton and wool blend as my fabric since it maintains pleats well during this project and alot of different equipment. I used a sewing machine, sewing pins, a measuring tape, scissors, stitch picker ( in case I make mistakes ), different types of thread, a chosen fabric for my skirt, zippers, and a button.
